In
order to ensure that leaders are developed effectively and that their
development not only increases their effectiveness but drives organizational
performance, The Ahimsa Group has designed a leadership development program that
is state of the art, performance focused, and above all develops not only the
skills that increase effectiveness for both the individual and the organization,
but assists the individual to develop, refine, and operate from the internal
perspective and attitude of the true leader (which will guide the appropriate
application of leadership skills). As leadership skills are developed and
enhanced, the qualities of leadership are carefully cultivated, ensuring
that the individual can return to his/her environment well equipped to
accurately interpret, approach, and address leadership challenges with
wisdom, skill, and insight. The following provides an overview of the components
and protocol of this program.
To
best develop leaders and improve performance, the following protocol is
recommended:
Assessment/design
– during this phase a careful look at organizational issues, strategy,
plan and performance is conducted and core skills and knowledge are identified
which drive leadership effectiveness and organizational performance. In
addition, attention is paid to vision, mission, values and culture to best
determine the most effective personal values and behavior to create and sustain
effective leadership.
The
result of this process is that leaders have a clear idea of:
- What
the organization requires of them as leaders
- The
relationship between their behavior and skills and organizational
performance
- A
more comprehensive understanding of organizational issues that will affect
leadership performance
These
performance driven elements are then evaluated in relationship to leaders’
capabilities and the basis for a targeted, focused curriculum emerges.
The curriculum has four major objectives:
- Development
of self-awareness and leadership capability
- Development
of tools, concepts and frameworks to drive leadership performance
- Development
of plans to implement skills and awareness and establishment of a coaching
relationship for a period of one year to further integrate knowledge and
skills
- Assignment
to task groups to address key organizational issues
This
curriculum is designed to be conducted in an intensive five-day period (this can
be modified to fit the time requirements of the organization), during which both
the Doing and Being (skills/tools/concepts/tasks and
attitude/perspective/viewpoint/way of being) are addressed. All material
presented has been tailored to fit the specific organization, and is directly
applied to current organizational issues and challenges.
Everything,
therefore, is pertinent. No wasted time, energy, or attention. This intensive
program is then followed up with a one-year commitment to regular
coaching/mentoring sessions for each participant to ensure the continued and increasingly
successful application of the tools, skills, and perspectives that have been
learned. These sessions can be conducted onsite, by telephone, or even, in many
cases, by e-mail. The appropriate format is selected on the basis of what is
most effective for the individual and the organization.
